This idea was put forward by my friend and it has qualified all the conditions kept by NASA and other sponsers.

This is an innovative idea that uses wave energy along with reverse osmosis to produce desalinated water and elecricity. This plant should be constructed near the shore where the waves are strong throughout the year. It consists of a chamber seperated into two by a semi-permeable membrane. At one end of chamber-1 two metal plates are connected to both sides of hydraulic or pneumatic pistons and this chamber stores the saline water. This chamber also has a small inlet for sea water. The other chamber consists of an outlet at the bottom, which is connected to turbine and/or a generator. Now when the waves strike the the metallic plate, it exerts a force on the pistons. The pistons used should be specially designed so that they absorb the energy of the waves and compress the fluid inside them. Each strike of the wave should compress the fluid to greater pressure. Finally when this pressure is greater than the osmotic pressure, the pistons should release this pressure into the chamber with saline water through the second plate. This pressure causes reverse osmosis and pure water flows into chamber-2 through the semi-permeable membrane. This chamber-2 consisted of air, and this air is displaced through the outlet when the water flows into it. This air forces its way out through the outlet thereby turning the turbines. The pure water also flows out through this outlet and turns the turbine again. These turbines can be used to produce mechanical work or electricity, which can inturn be used to make this process self sustainable. Now if the pistons are connected with springs, it will force the plates to come back to their original state. This will result in a suction in the chambers that more air guses in through the turbine outlet. If the sea outlet in chamber-1 is opened, it will result in flooding chamber-1 with saline water. Thus the whole process repeats itself. Dozens of such chambers can make up one full-fledged desalinating plant. Since drinking water crisis have become a global issue, desalinated sea water will surely be of great importance. The usual desalinating plants consume a lot of resources and is not very economical. This sustainable desalinating plant is comparatively economical except for the installation expenses. It is also 100% eco-friendly and can be used to produce electricity in low scale so that desalinated water can be purified further or transported without much expense. Using this technology, drinking water problems can to solved to a certain extend in a 100% environment-friendly way.

100% enviormentally friendly was one of the things I understood. Which is good. Although not everything can be good for the planet, it's good to do what we can.

I'm not sure if it's that simple. You're relying on a strong tide to force enough pressure in, and also it sounds like it would be hard to clean if it's designed to work without much in the way of an artificial power input. It also doesn't sound like it'd work too great on a large scale, especially since people have issues with putting things up on the "beautiful"/flat line of blue sealine.
